Recently selected one of the top 100 pastel artists in the US by Pastel Journal, she devotes her time and talent to several animal sanctuaries including Safari West www.safariwest.com in Sonoma County California, Brighthaven, www.brighthaven.org. a sanctuary for old and disabled animals in Santa Rosa California, and Animal Ark in Reno NV www.animalark.org and donates art to various local animal welfare groups.

Her current project is Animal Ark in Reno Nevada. This extraordinary high desert sanctuary was started 27 years ago by founders Aaron and Diana Hibble. Here animals that cannot be returned to the wild are given homes and spacious enclosures for life. Colleen is creating portraits and paintings of all the varied residents, tigers, lynx, cheetah, foxes, bears, birds of prey, wolves, coyotes, and bears. Original art and prints of the Animal Ark residents are available. (50% of proceeds are donated to Animal Ark) Her favorite boy at the ark is Khan, a white tiger of exceeding beauty and personality who lives with Taja and Shere Khan, two Siberian-bengal tigers. “Guardian of the Ark” is her tribute to the Khan and Animal Ark for the magnificent work they do.

ARTIST STATEMENT

We are pushing the biosphere to the brink, all the animals we love, the plants we eat, even the air we breathe depend on humans waking to a new relationship and stewardship of our world. It is my great privilege to make art and to provide it to support the animals and the people who love them, for their survival and our own.
